I am because we are
We are because I am
You are because we are
Together, we are!
You can add an extension to this end – together we are… unbreakable, united etc. This sums up my view on ‘unity’ in whatever endeavour I undertake including being a GP.
Unity in diversity around a core shared value is essential. That core value strengthens the individual and should be the magnet that brings the various groups together. This does not mean ‘group think’ as I personally abhor group think.
GPs may have all sorts of divergent views on peripheral issues. But if we can all unite around a core common value, without any divisive ‘acronyms’ preceding the term ‘GP’. then and only then can we start to make any in-roads into the various issues bedevilling the profession.
If there is no crack in the wall, then the lizard cannot get into the house. In the same vein, the strands of a broom are often composed of long, short, thin, bigger, darker and lighter strands. If the various strands of a broom stand singly and isolated from the bunch, it is easy to snap them in two and they are essentially useless as a broom.
But together, in a bunch, they are much more effective and difficult too break.
